About the Authors

Dr Geoffrey Leader MB ChB FRCA

Dr Geoffrey Leader, a graduate of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in London, is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Medical Director of The Parkinson Disease Integrated Nutritional Clinic in London. He is a leading pioneer in the multi-disciplinary management of chronic illness. The special interest of his Clinic is the optimisation of functional health in people with Parkinson's Disease.

Dr Geoffrey Leader has held senior academic posts internationally. In the UK his last appointment was Chairman of the Anaesthetic Department, Head of Intensive Care and Pain Clinic at Newham General Hospital, London and Senior Lecturer and Honorary Senior Consultant at The Royal London Hospital Medical College. In South Africa he held academic appointments at Natal and Witwatersrand Universities and in The Netherlands at The University of Erasmus.

He is co-author and editor of these successful books:

Dr Geoffrey Leader is particularly interested in the intravenous nutritional support of patients with Parkinson's Disease as well as the specialised details of their management during anaesthesia and sedation and the patient's detoxification from anaesthetic drugs. He has presented papers on anaesthetic subjects at international congresses and has published in prestigious anaesthetic journals. Parkinson's Disease Congress presentations include:

  • "The Intravenous Aspects of Nutritional Support in Parkinson's Disease" at the Parkinson's Disease Congress for Nutrition and Sexuality in Vienna in 1999.
  • "Nutritional Therapy and Cellular Environment in Parkinson's Disease" at the ground-breaking Parkinson's symposium "Meeting of the Minds" in the USA in 2004.
  • "Specialized Nutritional Management in Parkinson's Disease" at the 5th Multi-disciplinary Conference of the European Parkinson's Disease Association (EPDA) in Lisbon, 2004 www.epdaconferences.org

He was honoured in the United States with a Quality of Life Award for Parkinson's in 2004.

Dr Geoffrey Leader is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists and The Royal Society of Medicine in the United Kingdom.
